Poker is a card game that, unlike many others, involves both skill, luck, strategy and a little (or a lot) of gambling- Making it a favored hobby of men around the globe. So I think Poker can be a pretty expensive hobby live (which IMO is the best thing about playing poker - nothing beats the feeling of having physical chips+cards). But, with practice and the right mindset, yes, it is possible to make money playing poker as a hobby. If you're interested in taking up poker, I'd suggest just taking an amount of money that you're comfortable losing (maybe like $100?) and giving it a shot. Learn about bankroll management, and just play the lowest stakes available to start out.

According to the rules of poker, players make antes, or bets, based on the first few card dealt to them after deciding how well they believe they can perform based on those cards and the remaining left to be dealt. Players will choose to fold or bet each time a round of cards is dealt, and at the end either one player will take the winnings after every other player folds, or two opponents will face off in a showdown.
